Super Pave

Trinidad & Tobago

About

Superpave limited was formed by Danny Gokool and Cecil Chin in May 2000. The main objective for forming Superpave limited was to service the small asphalt contractors in Trinidad and Tobago.

This came about because our market research indicated that there were small contractors who were not being adequately supplied by the larger producers of hot and cold asphaltic mixes. It was with this objective in mind that that Danny Gokool and Cecil Chin purchased a used, manually operated asphalt plant and refurbished and upgraded it into a first class semi computerized asphalt plant, which now consistently produces one of the highest quality asphaltic mixes in the country.

In 2002 a decision was made to implement an ISO 9001:2000 quality system from the Trinidad and Tobago Bureau of Standards. The certification was granted in 2004 and the quality system has been an integral part of the company’s operation and culture since that time.

This asphalt plant named AP1 was given a complete upgrade. The scales were changed from manual to computerized load cell type. Custom made software was designed in- house for the operation of the mixing process. Electronic thermocouples and displays together with material bin indicators were installed. The operating software is capable of logging data for all the production carried out on the asphalt plant.

In 2004 a decision was made to acquire another asphalt plant . A continuous mix plant was purchased with a capacity of 120 tons per hour. The plant was sold in 2006 in favor of upgrading to a 120 ton per hour batch plant which guaranteed better monitoring and control of the manufacturing process and end product quality.

This plant was commissioned on January 2008 and has been in continuous operation since.

The plant named AP3 is capable of full automatic operation and has monitoring and measuring devices which log data to the plant operators control system. As with AP1 each batch of asphalt produced can be traced to give the necessary details should a problem occur.

Superpave has forged alliances with other companies in the asphalt industry. In 2006 Danny Gokool signed an agreement with Lake Asphalt of Trinidad and Tobago (1978) ltd, giving LATT the exclusive rights to market worldwide the cold mix produced by Superpave limited.

Superpave limited is the only asphalt company worldwide that has successfully used an hot process to manufacture a cold asphaltic mix using TLA blend asphalt.

In 2009 a sister company was set up in Panama named Panama Asphalt to market asphalt in Central America with the intention of setting up an asphalt manufacturing plant in the near future.

Presently, the Superpaves asphalt plants are capable of producing a daily consistent output of approximately 1600 tons within a ten hour shift. As of 2009 Superpave limited is the only asphalt producing company in the Caribbean with an ISO9001:2008 quality system in operation and is at the forefront of producing a consistently high quality product that meets desired specifications

Superpave Limited has made major strides in its relatively short life and expresses its pride at being at the forefront of producing a consistently high quality product that meets customer specifications and satisfy their needs.

Our Products

Superpave Limited, in keeping with its policy of customer satisfaction, and in recognizing the special needs of small contractors, has developed and manufactured a range of hot and cold asphaltic mixes to satisfy these needs.

Hot asphaltic mix can be sub-divided into two (2) categories which include:-

Base course mix - used to seal off and strengthen the sub-base before the final mix is applied.
Wearing course mix - applied on the surface as the final layer

Our hot asphaltic mixes are normally utilized on:-

Major road and highways
Secondary roadway
Driveways and yards
Playing areas such as tennis and basketball courts

Different asphaltic mixes are designed based on the specifications required

Cold asphaltic mixes, although used on a smaller scale than hot asphaltic mix, can be used in sealing off and patching damaged areas on the surface layer and paving of roadways, driveways, tennis courts and other surfaces. It can be used for the same purposes as hot asphaltic mixes

Hot and cold mixes have different attributes that makes each mix unique with regards to workability and life-span. Hot asphaltic mixes are used for major infrastructures but cannot be stored and will no longer be workable once the temperature is not maintained. On the other hand, cold asphaltic mixes can be stored, has a longer shelf-life and is still workable after it becomes cold.

This will be achieved through the application of sound management and technological practices, continuous training and motivation of our employees, compliance with regulatory requirement, adherence to good quality and safety practices, and the maintenance of a culture that fosters continuous improvement of the Quality Management System.
